September 2011, Chestnut Oak Loop Trail, Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, North Carolina
A beautiful 1.2 mile trail through the sun-dappled trees. Not necessarily a stroll, either! We worked up a sweat!

September 2011, The Outcroppings Trail to “The Rock”, and Skyline Trail to Exclamation Point, Chimney Rock State Park, North Carolina
Out-and-back (or up-and-down, rather) 1.5 mile hike in Chimney Rock State Park. Not the longest hike, but you’ll definitely feel the burn - especially the 200 vertical feet you’ll gain going up the last 1/3 mile to the park’s pinnacle, Exclamation Point. High above everything else at 2,480’, the view spans across Hickory Nut Gorge - where Last of the Mohicans was filmed - and Lake Lure - where Dirty Dancing was filmed.
In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.

July 2011, North Inlet Trail, Rocky Mountain National Park
Out-and-back hike to Cascade Falls along the North Inlet trail. Gorgeous 7-mile round trip along the North Inlet creek.
July 2011, East Inlet Trail, Rocky Mountain National Park
Short hike up to Adam’s Falls and the meadows beyond. With all of the runoff this year, the Falls are gorgeous. Several trails throughout RMNP, especially those along the Colorado, or any other streams and rivers, have some very wet - if not flooded - sections.
For every person who has ever lived there has come, at last, a spring he will never see.
Glory then in the springs that are yours.

June 2011, Mount Sanitas, Boulder, Colorado
Mount Sanitas Loop Trail to the top, 6,843’
Today was my first real hike since January(!) and since I’d moved back to Colorado at the end of February. Man, did it feel great to make it to the top! And the views were stunning.
Golden Gate view from Fort Baker, GGNRA
Not really a hike, just a fantastic view, and alas - didn’t have my real camera.
I think my next bay area new hike might have to be Mount Diablo when I come back in March, seeing as it’s supposed to snow this week. Who’s with me?
Looking forward to being back in CO and exploring my home state as a grown-up.
